Concord, NH is a small and vibrant city located in the central part of New Hampshire. It has a strong sense of community and local politics play an important role in shaping the everyday life of its inhabitants. The city has a Mayor-Council system that consists of five members that are elected by the citizens every two years. In addition to the Mayor-Council, there is also a City Manager who is appointed by the council to oversee daily operations. The City Council and Board of Selectmen are responsible for setting policies, passing ordinances, and approving budgets. Local elections are held annually in November, giving citizens the chance to have their voices heard when it comes to deciding who will represent them. Through these elections, Concord residents can choose candidates from both parties who best represent their interests and values. As a result, Concord politics reflect the diversity and values of its citizens while still providing effective leadership through collaboration and compromise.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
